On July 1, the Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Muslim, Jewish and Buddhist representatives in France will all #fastfortheclimate together.
While they fast, they will hand a public declaration on climate change to the French President François Hollande, along with the Minister ofForeign Affairs and future President of COP21 Laurent Fabius, the Minister of the Environment Ségolène Royal, the Minister of Interior Bernard Caseneuve, and the Special Envoy of the President for the Protection of the Planet, Nicolas Hulot.
This month has proven that faith communities worldwide want climate action now. In just the last week:
- the Pope released his encyclical on climate change, Laudato Si, a bold call for climate justice
- the Bishop of Salisbury has called on the whole Church of England to #fastfortheclimate every month
- the Lutheran World Federation has voted to divest from fossil fuels
Momentum is building. Let’s make sure President Hollande hears us. The #fastfortheclimate will be represented in the meeting by two of our French fasters, who will call for President Hollande to commit to making the decisive Paris climate talks a place where we can secure a just transition to a safe climate future.
But we need to show President Hollande that people all over the world are hungry for real climate action. Join our Thunderclap to make your voice heard when the French faith leaders meet President Hollande
